We all love going on a wild ride once in a while. The fear factor and adrenaline rush that accompanies such is like an addictive drug – it’s not the most enjoyable experience but it’s something you can’t do without. And here we go again, ladies and gentlemen, tighten your saddles and get your fears in check, NetEnt‘s latest release is about to take you on a wild, wild journey to the Wild West and back. The new slot, named “Wild West: The Great Train Heist” was officially released at the end of February 2017 and has already become a sensation as all NetEnt’s titles.
About the slot
Net Entertainment, the world’s leading gaming company, never disappoints, especially on blockbuster releases. You can tell that they put in a lot of work in developing this amazing Western slot. The special effects are nothing short of awesome and the graphics are completely out of this world. As it were, Wild West is an animation-style slot and features comic characters with the theme set on the Western jungles. It has the usual 5 reels and 10 fixed paylines which are definitely not a good idea. Way to screw up such a great slot, NetEnt!
To put it aptly, Wild West is a celebration of the outlaw culture and combines the unique graphics, effects, and display with a twangy soundtrack to complete the picture. Call it a wild impression.
In their press release, NetEnt described the slot as having “four villains and the player”. This is a notable move from the usual corny and childish characters to those we’ve become accustomed to. As the player, you are the only ‘good guy’ in this game and have to square it out with the villains, who include a cunning old-timer, a young and strong greenhorn, a self-proclaimed tough guy, and a gun-toting vixen, who is also easy on the eyes. The 4 protagonists also double as symbols and appear on the reels alongside the Lucky 7 and Golden Safe symbols.
They say that it’s the small things that matter and NetEnt might have taken that a bit too literally. After messing up on the pay lines, they make up for it with a great storyline and an unbelievable gaming experience. The Spin button is one of the features that the developer actually put in time and effort developing and the results are evident and impressive. As you play in this feature, you will notice that there’s a big train moving in the background (hey, the theme of the game is The Great Train Heist!). As the train moves, its lanterns sway side to side on the reels giving you the feeling of actually being on the train. Surreal.

On the features
Taking a look at the game features, it is evident that NetEnt did not intend to have Wild West as the release of the year. Which only means that big things are coming, yay! Nonetheless, the slot still packs some amazing features, one of which is called Pick and Click. This feature is launched when 3 or more Golden Safe symbols show up on the reels. In Pick and Click, you have to choose a safe from the options given each of them carrying different sizes of coin wins. You’ll probably select the wrong one most of the time because, one, Lady Luck is choosy and two, The House always wins.
Other features include the free spins round, which becomes available after the appearance of three or more 7 Symbols and the Wild feature which turns random symbols wild. Nothing impressive there, still nothing unimpressive. Call it average.
As per official news, Wild West: The Great Train Heist is set to be available in all NetEnt casinos starting this March. If you still haven’t played it, just have a little patience and the Wild might just be patient with you! In all honesty, it’s a great slot but we have seen much better from NetEnt and hopefully, the second and final release in Quarter 1 – which has been announced as Jungle Spirit: Call of The Wild – will not disappoint.
